I started watching CBS’s How I Met Your Mother back in September of last year, at the beginning of its third season. Last night’s episode was by far the best I’ve ever seen. It also had the show’s highest ratings ever. Granted that was probably because it had Britney Spears as a guest star, and I have to say she wasn’t all that bad. As an added bonus, Sarah Chalke was also in the episode as a doctor, how appropriate. What a perfect episode to have Spears draw in the audience, I bet they’ll pick up a ton of regular viewers from this.

The show is presented by the voice of Bob Saget from the future. He is telling his kids the story of how he met their mother and the whole story arch is about who she will be. The lead character (Ted) goes through different relationships which never seems to works out, while a woman with a yellow umbrella, whose face is never revealed, makes cameo appearances. This yellow umbrella girl is alluded to as being “the one”, but he always ends up not meeting her. In last week’s St. Patrick’s day episode (also a good one) she was at the same bar that Ted was at. Now you’re all set up to watch last night’s episode, although I strongly suggest you watch the St. Patrick’s day episode first.

It’s a good show, probably my favorite L&O besides the original. Seasons 1 through 8 are on Netflix available for streaming. I’m working my way from the beginning. The scene where Christopher Meloni tries to talks to his daughter about sex with soccer goalie metaphors is hilarious (Hysteria - Season 1, Episode 4).

So I’m re-watching 24 on DVD and it seems like CTU is so easy to compromise. Every season there’s someone on the inside fucking things up. Also, the amount of stress caused by being pissed off at whomever is hindering Jack’s progress—because of protocols and procedures or just being a dumb ass—can’t be good for my health.

If you find yourself constantly being limited by procedural bullshit then maybe you should get some of these Jack Bauer gear. After all, sometimes that’s what is needed to get things done.
