    Zombie Strippers
    Posted by E-dizzle

Zombie Strippers, a film about love, romance, conviction, and desire. I’m just kidding it was freaking zombie strippers, a movie about strippers that were soon turned to zombies. What a concept! I want to believe someone has thought of this before, but only Jay Lee had it in him to do it, and did it well. I knew what I was getting into but I was still surprised with the results.

    Vantage Point - review
    Posted by Ran

You know how sometimes you see a commercial about a new burger? and you think, “man, I’ve been craving a burger like that!” You know it’s not going to be that great, but you know that there’s a good chance you’ll like it. But when you go and sit down and all prepared to enjoy it, it disappoints you. An you think to yourself, “they had a good idea, but it was just so poorly implemented.” That’s the metaphor I’m using to describe Vantage Point. I suppose I could have just replaced the word “burger” with “movie”, but then it wouldn’t be a metaphor anymore—as terrible as it was.

Be Kind Rewind - Sweded Trailer - Starring Micheal Gondry

Micheal Gondry is a prop genius. This was abundantly clear from his recent films like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Science des rêves, La (The Science of Sleep). Be Kind Rewind was no different.

    Cloverfield - review (spoiler free)
    Posted by Ran

First of all, let me say that if you have motion sickness or if first person shooters make you dizzy, don’t watch this movie. Otherwise strap in for an intense ride. Produced by Lost creator and MI:3 director J.J. Abrams, Cloverfield is, in most respects, a very average monster/disaster flick.

    Sunshine - review
    Posted by Ran

I picked up Sunshine and Blood Diamonds on Blu-ray so I thought I’d write a little something about Sunshine since I was evidently speechless after I saw it last time. Shields, on the other hand, was able to come up with some very eloquent words, all of which I whole heartedly agree with. When I heard about the Blu-ray release of Sunshine I was afraid that I wouldn’t enjoy it as much as I had upon my initial viewing. Or maybe I would find some insignificant flaw that I had missed before, and it would somehow lower the film from the unbelievably high pedestal I had placed it on back in July 2007. Luckily, my fears were quickly dispelled.

    I Am Legend - review
    Posted by Ran

First let me just say that I enjoyed this film. The action sequences were great, especially the first time you’re introduces to the main antagonists. It had a nice survival horror feel to it. And the in between scenes proved that if anyone can support a movie all by himself it’s Will Smith (and probably Tom Hanks). But when it was all said and done, the movie left me with an unsatisfied feeling. I think the problem is I Am Legend tries to be a Cast Away meets [insert zombie movie title] but it’s not long enough to be both.

    Sunshine

Only a true poet could find the words necessary to describe to you what I was witness to tonight at the theatre. I have been awaiting the release of Sunshine for a month or so now with only the expectation of, hopefully there won’t be any ridiculous Hollywood science. I left the theatre with a feeling of overwhelming awe. The word that comes to mind to attempt at quantifying the experience is majestic, but there is still not enough meaning to be found in such a trivial word. If I knew Latin, I think I might be able to find the perfect phrase to describe what this radiating feelings coming from inside me is expressing, but I don’t so you will just have to try and imagine it for yourself.

I have never felt so attached to a movie, its characters, and its outcome so fervently before. I can’t really relate with our sun dying and humanities last hope is a team of experts sent in to jump-start it. The closest thing is when the Spurs are down and have the opportunity to score the game-winning bucket. Looking over what I just wrote can you really compare the two? I cannot recommend this movie enough to anyone, even if SciFi isn’t your style, this film just does so much right, I am still amazed an hour later.

No joke, during the walk to the car Ran and I had absolutely nothing to say. There was nothing in need of being said, we were both there, we both watched the masterpiece with equal intensity and astonishment, and we each knew that silence was required to fully absorb and personally reflect on the event that had recently completed. Do yourself a favor and see this movie. Do someone else a favor and tell them to see this movie. You will not be disappointed.

Just who was being tortured in Captivity?
    Posted by E-dizzle

Over the weekend I finally got to see one of my most anticipated films of the Summer, now before I get into it, let me first tell you my love of horror films, generally the more twisted the better. I don’t need giant bugs terrorizing cities, just some person who wants other people to not continue their current state of, you know, living. The movie of which I speak is Captivity. A timeless tale of an obsessive creep adoring fan who kidnaps invites a famous beautiful beautiful model for a little torture tea and crumpet action. There was some controversy before the flick hit the screen. One was over a fairly disturbing billboard ad:

But that’s the point of movie, right? And the other probably stemming from this is when the media started dubbing this movie and others of its ilk as “torture porn”. I’m not sure if either of these media spun sensationalistic stories changed anything box office wise, I’m guessing it turned some people away and brought in some others. (hopefully the “others” weren’t in my theatre). Anyway, back the point of the post, my opinion of the show. It was awesome.

    The End???
