Danica Patrick makes history at Motegi
    Posted by Ran

Danica Patrick won her first Indy race this past weekend at Twin Ring Motegi. She overtook two time Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves in the final laps of the race. Motegi is considered a difficult track because of its asymmetrical oval shape. Corners 1 and 2 are wide open, but 3 and 4 requires a down shift of 1 or 2 gears. The tighter turns also make it more taxing on the cars and drivers.

    Twitter saves Berkeley student
    Posted by Ran

When Egyptian police scooped up UC Berkeley graduate journalism student James Karl Buck, who was photographing a noisy demonstration, and dumped him in a jail cell last week, they didn’t count on Twitter.

Buck, 29, a former Oakland Tribune multimedia intern, used the ubiquitous short messaging service to tap out a single word on his cellular phone: ARRESTED. The message went out to the cell phones and computers of a wide circle of friends in the United States and to the mostly leftist, anti-government bloggers in Egypt who are the subject of his graduate journalism project.

If I had things my way, Bill Richardson would have endorsed Obama last week. That would sway more Latino voters towards Obama and he could have carried Texas. I caucused for the first time last night. It was incredible. The room was packed and the atmosphere was chaotic. Once again, Travis county comes through and overwhelmingly supported Obama. I love Austin. But Dallas and Houston stepped up as well.

    Hillary is a Republican!
    Posted by Ran

Okay, not really. But when she says McCain is better than Obama it just makes me feel like that her goal isn’t to make things better in this country, but it’s some sort of scheme to get into the White House. It seems that she would do anything—even throw away the party that she is a part of—to meet her personal goal. I don’t want another president like that. There are rumors that if she looses the primary, she isn’t going to help the party too much in hopes that McCain will win so she can run again in 4 years. So far she hasn’t done anything to lead me away from that assumption, and that is a total bullshit move on her part.

Go vote for Obama today and don’t forget to caucus!

    Silent Hill V
    Posted by Ran

This is old news but the upcoming Silent Hill 5, while still published by Konami, will no longer be developed by Team Silent. Instead it’s being made by The Collective, who doesn’t exactly have an exemplary portfolio. I’m sure they are aware of how high the bar has been set in the Silent Hill series thus far, but I remain skeptical until I actually experience the end product.

Deutsch wins $150 Million PlayStation account
    Posted by Ran

    Flash Player required

Deutsch, Inc. won the coveted $150 Million PlayStation account yesterday, beating out incumbent TBWA as well as Publicis & Hal Riney, Publicis West, Grey, Young & Rubicam, and JWT. Hopefully they do a better job than TBWA.

While I really like TBWA’s latest PS3 ad (above), apparently it was too little too late. Really it was the first good PS3 commercial I’ve see. The other ones like the “room” campaign or the “this is living” campaign is just weird. I mean until this latest one, all the PlayStation 3 commercials just doesn’t appeal to the average gamer. Sure, they’re avant-garde and bear artistic merit, but that’s not what sells games. Check out some other ps3 commercials after the jump. All of which I’m assuming is by TBWA since they’ve been the PlayStation account holder for 13 years.

Update: The last three are actually from PlayStation’s European ad firm. They’re still weird though.

In a recent interview, Tetsuya Nomura stated that the increased space made possible by the Blu-ray technology could make the leap from Final Fantasy XII to XIII greater than the leap from VI to VII.

He also verified that Final Fantasy XIII will “of course” be a PlayStation 3 exclusive, and that it will be the first PS3 release to fully utilize the capabilities of the console.

    SNL Strike Benefit
    Posted by Ran

Michael Cera, Norah Jones, Yo La Tengo… sounds like an amazing show.

But this NBC show was not live from Studio 8H in Rockefeller Center. Nor were there any television cameras. The continuing writers’ strike meant there could be no new broadcasts. Instead the cast, writers and a few key production staff members had gathered in a subterranean comedy theater in Chelsea to perform the show live on stage for an audience of less than 200, including a Who’s Who of downtown comedy. The TV audience got a rerun of a Nov. 3 show, but at the Upright Citizens Brigade theater there was a rare event born of hammy necessity, unexpected availability and good vibes.
